It is a very hard timber with oak-like density but only moderately durable to moisture and insect attack.

The wood has reddish brown or pale red color with heartwood and sapwood not easily distinguishable. It has a medium, coarse texture, with wavy and interlocked grains. Niangon timber is rather easy to work with and is widely used in woodworking applications such as interior and joinery.
